Baltimore Orioles left-handed relief pitcher Zach Britton ruptured his Achilles while working out in California, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman reports the tear is “small” and there’s some hope he could return in four months instead of the usual six. Britton appeared in 38 games in a somewhat abbreviated season in 2017, as he spent two separate stints on the disabled list due to forearm issues. When he did pitch, however, he was effective, registering a 2.89 ERA while allowing 39 hits and striking out 29 batters over 37.1 innings of work. There had been increased trade interest for Britton, who’s set to hit free agency after the 2019 season
