Hours after it was reported that the Chicago Cubs were interested in free agent pitcher Yu Darvish, the man himself confirmed that he met with the team on Monday. In his native Japanese, Darvish said that he did not have an interpreter with him for the 3.5-hour meeting in order to get more comfortable with speaking in English. Darvish is one of the top remaining pitchers on the free agent market, and he’s coming off of a season in which he pitched for both the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers. In 22 starts for the Rangers, Yu Darvish was 6-9 with a 4.01 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in 137 innings pitched. Darvish spent the first four-plus seasons of his MLB career with the Rangers, before being traded to the Dodgers at the trade deadline in late July.
