Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie fully expects to be in the lineup Friday in Boston, after taking a nasty spill trying to catch a foul ball Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, but just in case, the Blue Jays called up utilityman Yan Gomes Thursday. To make room for Gomes, who appeared in 14 games for the Blue Jays this season, the club optioned pitcher Sam Dyson to double-A New Hampshire. Gomes, the first Brazilian-born player in MLB history, hit .211 with three home runs and eight RBIs while in Toronto.
