Some observations from nearly the first 20 percent of the Avalanche and NHL season. Yes, it's that much already, thanks to the wonderful lockout. Let's face it, with Gabe Landeskog on injured reserve and out indefinitely, it's going to be tough for the Avs to make the playoffs. Already suffering from a lack of size and physicality up front, the Avs probably can't withstand a long-term absence of their young team captain. After Saturday's 3-1 victory against the Oilers, the Avs were 2-2 without Landeskog in the lineup. He was placed on injured reserve Friday because of a head injury, and nobody seems to know how long he will be out. He was injured on a hit by San Jose's Brad Stuart.
Without Landeskog, Avalanche has poor chance of playoffs
