Right fielder Wil Myers is not expected to miss an extended period of time but will likely have to continue managing his patellar tendonitis through treatment and the occasional day off.
Myers left Tuesday’s game after the third inning and is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Pirates due to the inflammation in his right knee. He was sidelined with the issue for a couple days during spring training and has been playing through occasional discomfort for a while.
“He’s feeling better than he did last night, making progress,” manager Jayce Tingler said before Wednesday’s game. “Wil said he’s going to be available to come in off the bench if needed. I’d really like to keep him off his feet today and see if we can continue to progress. We’ll have a chance to get him back in the lineup tomorrow if he can continue to keep feeling better. … He does a really god job of playing through it, maintaining it.”
Myers leads the team with a 1.047 OPS and shares the lead with Eric Hosmer with three home runs and a .438 on-base percentage.
