Brian Cashman reached out to Alex Rodriguez "a number of times" during the ongoing managerial search — but not to ask the retired slugger if he wanted the job. The Yankees general manager told reporters Friday morning that he sought A-Rod's guidance, but Rodriguez "never expressed interest" in being the next skipper. "I reached out to Alex a number of times, 'Hey, what do you got?'" Cashman said. "I looked for a lot of guidance from a lot of people that I have a lot of respect for, and Alex knows baseball as well as anybody. So he certaintly connected with me about what his thoughts are and the type of people he thinks we should make a play on."
