The Eloy Jimenez era will have to wait a little longer.

As expected, the White Sox optioned Jimenez, 22, to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday as one of several roster moves.

Jimenez, the Sox’s top prospect, struggled this spring, batting .154 (4-for-26) with one home run.

Regardless of his spring performance, Jimenez was going to start the season in Charlotte in order for the Sox to control another year of his contract. He is expected to join the team in late April, taking over a corner outfield spot.

Right-hander Dylan Cease also was optioned to Charlotte along with right-hander Jordan Stephens and catcher Seby Zavala.
