The St. Louis Cardinals dropped a bombshell on Thursday by firing manager Mike Shildt, who had one year remaining on his current deal. The club said it boiled down to “philosophical differences”. Take it for what you will, but by no surprise, Cardinals fans will be wondering, could a reunion be in store with Tony La Russa? According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, he’ll be staying with the White Sox.

La Russa enjoyed a successful spell with the Cardinals from 1996-2011. They won the World Series in 2006 and 2011 under La Russa while winning the NL Central six times.
