The White Sox tinkered with their roster Thursday with three players involved in transactions. The club announced they declined the 2018 option on veteran catcher Geovany Soto, who missed most of the season with an elbow injury that required surgery. Meanwhile, outfielder Charlie Tilson and right-handed reliever Zach Putman were reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. Tilson recently joined the Glendale Devil Dogs of the Arizona Fall League where he is hitless in 10 at-bats over three games. The moves left the Sox with 34 players on their 40-man roster. The Sox also handed out a pair of awards Thursday, naming Class A Kannapolis manager Justin Jirschele Minor League Coach of the Year. Jirschele led Kannapolis to a first-half division title and a berth in the South Atlantic League finals in his first year as a professional manager.
