Alaba, 28, is out of contract with the Bundesliga giants next summer and talks over an extension have broken down, leaving the player free to enter negotiations with other clubs as soon as next month.

Chelsea received a boost in their pursuit of the versatile Austrian earlier this week, as they are reportedly one of four clubs the player is keen to join.

The Blues know they will face heavy competition to sign Alaba and may need to offer him an eye-watering wage to fend off competition from other European giants.
