The Buffalo Bills plan to name Doug Whaley their new general manager on Thursday, according to a league source. Whaley was identified as the successor to outgoing GM Buddy Nix after the 2012 season and has been groomed for the promotion. Nix's departure was not a surprise (he is now in a consulting role) and Whaley has developed a strong relationship with executive Russ Brandon, who is in essence the acting owner with Ralph Wilson aging and often in his Detroit home.
