On a recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, Niall McCaughan, Jim Salveson and Alex Boardman discussed the latest issues in the Premier League and at one point during the show, the panel spent some time discussing Southampton forward Danny Ings, declaring that West Ham United “would have loved to have had him” this season.

Ings has been enjoying an impressive campaign in England’s top-flight this term, scoring 19 goals in his 34 Premier League appearances. This makes him the third-highest goalscorer in the Premier League this season at present.

Speaking before the Saints’ 1-1 draw with Everton on the Football Social Daily podcast, Boardman spent some time discussing the in-form 27-year-old and he claimed that West Ham “would have loved to have had him” at the London Stadium this season.

Boardman said: “Going back to Southampton really briefly, Danny Ings is someone that you’ve just got to mention. When you’re comparing him to other teams that we’ve mentioned – Aston Villa, also West Ham – he’s got 18 goals this season, Danny Ings, and I think he’s one of those signings. West Ham would have loved to have had him now, retrospectively.”
