Sometimes, the present comes at the expense of the future. It’s something NBA times must be concerned about often.

Suppose you just love food. You love greasy, fatty, unhealthy food. You can constantly indulge, but it may cut your life short.

On the other hand, you can shortchange your present at the expense of your future. If you never indulge, you’re extending your life – for what? You’re not taking advantage of what life has to offer.

It’s a balance. It’s one that NBA teams need to try to strike as well.

For example, look at the Golden State Warriors. This team is trying to operate in two timelines. In 2022-23, the future timeline is compromising the present one.

Could they remedy that this summer by trading for Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat?
