A female former student who worked as an athletic trainer at the University of Evansville is suing the southern Indiana school for failing to provide a safe environment, claiming she was sexually assaulted by then-men's basketball coach Walter McCarty on December 9, 2019.

McCarty, a former Boston Celtics forward and University of Kentucky star, was fired on January 21, 2020 as the school investigated unspecified allegations of sexual misconduct. The findings of that probe have not been released by the school, but the 47-year-old McCarty did deny the sexual assault allegations to the Evansville Courier & Press on Monday.
