Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace seems to have a high opinion of quarterback Ryan Tannehill. On Wednesday after Wallace and Tannehill hooked up on several short and intermediate pass routes late in practice Wallace gave his opinion of Tannehill. “He’s a guy who takes some chances and believes in his arm” said Wallace the free agent signee from Pittsburgh. “A lot of times those work out for him. Today was one of those days.” Is Tannehill like Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in that respect? “I think they’re two totally different quarterbacks” Wallace said. “Two good quarterbacks though.” There's been much writtten about the absence of the Tannehill-Wallace connection on deep passes. It happened once Wednesday but the Dolphins weren't focusing on deep passes. Still Tannehill had a nice practice proving incredibly efficient on slants and crossing patterns to Wallace slot receiver Brian Hartline and tight end Dustin Keller as well as hitting running backs out of the backfield. The passes didn’t seem especially risky but it seemed Wallace was talking about Tannehill’s overall demeanor not just Wednesday. Wallace said he likes the offense’s potential when Tannehill has days such as Wednesday. “Like I say every day he wants to be the best man and he works like it” Wallace said. “You have a lot of work to put in to get there but he’s on the right track with his mindset. “He wants to be the best player he can be and he works and shows it every day.” By the way the Dolphins showed some five-receiver sets Wednesday which should give defenses something to ponder. They had Wallace Hartline Keller and running back Lamar Miller on the field together with an empty backfield and H-back Charles Clay and Gibsoon alternating in the fifth receiver spot.
