Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright has pronounced himself fit for duty and his next scheduled start. The 6-foot-7 righthander threw "35 to 40" pitches in a pregame session this morning at Busch Stadium III. Afterward, he said there were no red flags from his troubled right elbow. "I felt very good," said Wainwright, 9-3. "There were no signs of anything." Barring a change, Wainwright will miss only the one start after experiencing soreness in the elbow. His start was taken by Carlos Martinez on Monday. Martinez went the initial four innings in a 6-2 victory over the Mets.
