Virginia Tech got some much-needed help on its defensive line Monday, securing a transfer commitment from Nebraska’s Pheldarius Payne. He announced his commitment via Twitter.

Payne is a 6-foot-3, 260-pounder who has one year of eligibility left. He played in 18 games for the Cornhuskers the last two seasons, registering 40 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks.

Before that, he played at Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania, where he had 53 tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss and nine sacks in two years for a team that played for the junior college national championship. Payne is originally from Suffolk and played at Nansemond River High.
