Detroit Tigers catcher Victor Martinez said this morning that he will play two games on a rehabilitation assignment with the Toledo Mud hens before being activated Wednesday from the 15-day disabled list. "I am ready to play and will play two games in the minor leagues with Toledo," Martinez, 32, said. "Everything I did yesterday and have been doing feels good." Martinez worked on blocking balls in the dirt Saturday, and showed the agility needed to return to action. He strained his right groin April 16 at Oakland, took one game off, and re-aggravated it April 18 on a checked swing in Seattle. Detroit manager Jim Leyland was asked if Martinez would return to the No. 5 spot in the batting order or move some place else - perhaps No. 3, where Magglio Ordonez has been struggling.
