Manchester United are making an astonishing move to buy Chelsea’s Brazilian star David Luiz - and would pay £30million for the defender. New United manager David Moyes has made secret approaches for the buccaneering centre-half who is also a target for Barcelona and has been left out of Jose Mourinho’s sides early this season following a pre-season hamstring problem. Moyes thinks the colourful character may not be a Mourinho-style player because he takes risks at the back but would love to see him at the Old Trafford club. The Scot knows first-choice pair Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand can pick up injuries and will struggle to handle their busy fixture list of domestic and European matches. Luiz has been a United priority for weeks with work on the deal being done behind the scenes - even while the west Londoners engaged in a very public pursuit of Reds striker Wayne Rooney. Moyes hopes to prey on Luiz’s doubts about whether Mourinho will use him regularly and step in for the shaggy-haired 26-year-old before the window shuts at 11pm on Monday night.
