Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. might want to open his checkbook and buy the players on his 40-man roster some themed T-shirts. Anything with the phrase "underdog" on it will work for pitcher Cole Hamels, who made his request official at Monday's Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Banquet, where he and his wife Heidi were the 2013 Humanitarian Award winners. "Is he going to buy us jerseys? Is he going to make us shirts?" Hamels asked with a smile. The question popped up because Amaro referred to his team last week as underdogs based upon their 2012 season. Their 81-81 record and third-place finish in the National League East ended the Phillies' string of five consecutive playoff appearances.
Underdog title suits Phillies' Hamels just fine
