Charlie Ward, Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell, Larry Johnson and Patrick Ewing. Those five were the regular starters the last time the Knicks won a playoff series. That was — can you believe it? — 11 years ago and now, finally, the Knicks have their best starting unit since the Jeff Van Gundy era. Mike D'Antoni already has gone on record saying that the Knicks "should compete for a championship" and that was before the club signed Baron Davis. The Knicks have three proven scorers on the roster and a legitimate defensive center. There are two major concerns, however: the bench is thin and many of the key players have medical concerns. But if the Knicks stay healthy and defend as a team, well, winning a playoff a series should be well within their grasp.
