The chances of Alex Smith starting at tight end on Sunday against Baltimore are pretty good. Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) and Tyler Eifert (neck) haven’t practiced all week while Smith was full go for the first time on Friday. Eifert is listed as doubtful, Gresham questionable and Smith is probable. Besides Smith, there is a possibility that Orson Charles could see time at tight end. When asked about Gresham, coach Marvin Lewis gave a “cautious we’ll see” about his outlook. Cornerback Terence Newman (knee) and defensive tackle Devon Still (back) have been ruled out for the game. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict returned to practice and was at full participation after being cleared to return after he had a concussion last Sunday. Said Lewis about Burfict, who is listed as questionable on the injury report: “He’s got to be smarter with his body. Don’t get frustrated during the game. Whatever was getting to him he was going to go in there and crush someone and it didn’t work out.”
