Joe Mauer hit his third career grand slam and Chris Parmelee hit a three-run homer as the Twins swept a doubleheader with an 8-7 win over the Royals in front of 23,189 on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Kaufmann Stadium. The two homers gave the Twins an 8-2 lead after two innings but starter Liam Hendriks, looking for his first major league victory in 15 tries, couldn't get through the fourth, pulled after allowing five runs, three earned, on 10 hits. Nine of those hits, including RBI singles by Alex Gordon and Billy Butler in the fourth, came with two out.
