Newcastle United have ditched plans to sign Stevan Jovetic – but remain confident over a deal for Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet. The Magpies had been exploring the possibility of signing Inter Milan striker Jovetic before the transfer window shuts as they look to bolster their forward line. However, the former Manchester City man has rejected the chance to go to St. James' Park after holding talks with the club, although Premier League rivals Brighton reportedly remain in the chase. That news has come as a hammer blow to Newcastle but, according to Corriere della Sera, they are confident they will add to the squad. The club are working on a £12m deal for Praet, who has been impressing with Sampdoria in Italy. Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the Belgian and he is looking to bring him before the window shuts.
