Jalen Wilson woke up Monday morning to a phone call from a friend.

Then he checked ESPN, and saw the news: John Beilein had accepted the head coaching job with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The news was a surprise for Wilson, Michigan basketball's top signee in the class of 2019.

"I was just in shock," Wilson told the Free Press over the phone Monday night. "I didn’t want to believe it. It’s news, so I was really just shocked, you know? Looking at what it’s going to be."

His signing came nearly half a year after he verbally committed to Michigan on May 30.

Shortly after, news broke that Beilein had interviewed with the Detroit Pistons for a head coaching job.
