The New York Rangers are finally moving forward with the Tony DeAngelo buyout. Per multiple reports, he will be placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

As we’ve written before, the Blueshirts were not likely to use the buyout as soon as the window opened in order to expose him to the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft. Now that has passed and the process is in motion.

The 25 year-old righty defenseman has one year left at $4.5 million and his buyout is only 1/3 of his deal because of his age. That would only be a cap charge of $383,333 in 2021-22 and $833,333 in 2022-23. The buyout will add $4,416,666 to the Rangers cap bringing their free space to $27 million.
