Adam Wainwright's pitching lines over his final August start and first September outing are highlighted by the fact he didn't pitch past five innings in either game, lost both and gave up 17 hits and 11 runs in 7 2/3 innings. If that doesn't scream the word "fatigue," it would suggest it, but Wainwright is adamant that theory is so much poppycock. This winter, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak had tossed out an arbitrary innings goal of 150 for the rehabilitating Wainwright, who immediately disputed it. In Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the New York Mets, Wainwright got to 173 2/3 innings, on pace for 200, and he says he still is strong.
Tired arm? Nope, says Wainwright
