A loss to a division rival is bad enough, but the other loss suffered by the Flyers Friday against the New Jersey Devils might be even worse. Kimmo Timonen did not return to the ice for the third period of the Flyers’ eventual 5-3 defeat. General manager Paul Holmgren said the veteran defenseman has a lower-body injury. The Flyers are uncertain of the injury’s severity, however. For now, Timonen is considered day to day. “It’s obviously a loss,” Claude Giroux said. “He’s one of our best D. When he’s out of the lineup, obviously, we want him in the lineup.” It’s unclear exactly what happened to Timonen, who averages 22:45 on the ice a night -- more than any other Flyers defenseman. Even his partner on defense wasn’t certain. Timonen didn’t appear to take any sizable hits during the more-than 11 minutes he played in the game.
