When the Tigers struggle to produce runs, so much of the attention falls on the 5-9 hitters in the lineup. But if you look at the Tigers' poor production during this nine-game trip, another spot in the order jumps out, too -- cleanup. Before Wednesday night's series finale at Fenway Park, Prince Fielder had gone 0-for-12 and was hitting .200 during the trip. To be fair, Fielder just missed a grand slam Tuesday when he hit a ball that might have been a homer in other parks. Yet it's not a coincidence that as Fielder fell into a mini-slump, the Tigers did, too -- they began the trip 2-6. But Wednesday night at Fenway, Fielder crushed another ball to deep center. This one didn't miss, as his solo home run helped the Tigers put five runs up in the fifth inning.
