Fast. That's how Bruce Rondon looked in his first outing of the spring on Saturday — pitching a scoreless, but eventful fifth inning in the Tigers' 10-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Marchant Stadium. "He threw some fastballs I didn't see, but they somehow ended up in my glove," catcher Alex Avila said of the rookie right-hander who'll probably be the Tigers' closer if all goes well for him this spring. "By far one of the best arms I've ever seen." Rondon threw 24 pitches — 21 fastballs. He also threw two change-ups and one slider, but his explosive fastball was the pitch the players talked about. "He completely shattered my bat," said the Blue Jays' Adam Lind, who doubled to deep right for the only hit off Rondon, who also walked a batter. "The only reason the ball went as far as it did was because he throws so hard."
