The Dallas Mavericks have had an active NBA offseason so far. Unfortunately, not all of that activity has lent itself to improving the team.

Christian Wood was a smart acquisition for the Mavericks. Yes, questions about his defense and character abound. Still, he was too valuable an acquisition for the Mavericks to pass on for the price they paid this summer.

On the other hand, the club lost Jalen Brunson in free agency. He’ll be suiting up for the New York Knicks in 2022-23. For a team that’s light on secondary ball-handling behind the prodigiously talented Luka Doncic, that stings.

Apparently, they’re interested in Collin Sexton as a replacement. Why wouldn’t they be? Injuries robbed him of most of his 2021-22 season.

Still, the last time we saw Sexton in action, he was a reasonably efficient volume scorer.

Here’s a trade that finds him getting buckets alongside Doncic in Dallas.

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: G Spencer Dinwiddie, 2025 First-Round Pick (DAL)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Collin Sexton

If there’s any reason to question Collin Sexton’s fit alongside Luka Doncic, it may begin with Darius Garland. It would be fair to say that the recently-extended floor general blossomed in his absence.
