The Los Angeles Lakers received a vintage Russell Westbrook performance on Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs. He had easily his best game in purple and gold, as he finally got going after struggling for a few weeks.
Westbrook finished the game with 33 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and only three turnovers in 40 minutes. He and Anthony Davis, who scored a team-high 35 points with 17 rebounds, helped carry the team to a victory with LeBron James sidelined.
Therein lies the caveat when it comes to Westbrook’s performance.
The performance was encouraging. The Lakers know should anything happen to James or Davis, Westbrook is still more than capable of picking up the slack and helping the team win a game.
But, it came with James sidelined, nursing a sore ankle. The team has yet to find consistent success when all three of their stars are on the court together. A trade is extremely unlikely to occur, but if things don’t improve when all three are healthy, they may consider some changes.
Over at FanNation, they compiled some trade ideas involving Westbrook in the off chance the organization decides a deal has to get done. In this scenario, the Lakers make a deal with the New York Knicks.
