The NBA buyout market is littered with veterans that could help a team for the stretch run of the season and into the postseason. Plenty of teams already have an eye toward the offseason and 2022-23 campaign, so they have already begun moving on from veterans to see what some of their younger players have got.

One team that has begun that process is the Houston Rockets. The Rockets completed a trade with the Boston Celtics at the deadline, bringing on Dennis Schroder, Bruno Fernando, and Enes Freedom. Freedom was released following the completion of the deal, but to make room for the deal to be consummated, Armoni Brooks and DJ Augustin were waived.

Augustin now joins a buyout market that he is one of the top point guard options available, along with Goran Dragic. Eric Bledsoe and even Schroder are possible candidates to be bought out at some point as well, in addition to Tomas Satoransky.

As for Augustin, he shouldn’t have an issue latching on with a team, While his size will always be a deterrent defensively, as he stands only 5’11”, he brings plenty of positives to the table that he can slot in as a solid backup guard.

He is a 38 percent 3-point shooter in his career and is knocking down 40.6 percent this season. Augustin is an excellent playmaker as well, as his career assist percentage of 26.4 would rank him 32nd this season.

Teams would love to have another steady shooter and playmaker at the end of their depth chart, someone they can count on in a pinch. Here are three teams who should consider signing DJ Augustin for the remainder of the season.

3. Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are a unique situation when it comes to the point guard position. Because they run so much of their offense through Nikola Jokic at the center spot, they do not need a traditional ball-handler. Jokic leads the team with 7.9 assists per game as the lead playmaker.

But, the Nuggets are a team that could certainly still use some depth at the position. If Jamal Murray isn’t going to return this season, the only true point guards they have on the roster are Monte Morris and Facundo Campazzo.
