Texas Tech football’s radio play-by-play announcer Brian Jensen and color analyst John Harris have been removed from announcing the Red Raiders’ Saturday game against Oklahoma State in response to on-air comments during their Nov. 13 game against Iowa State. The Big 12 issued a public reprimand of the announcers Wednesday evening.
Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the comments made by the announcers “were contrary to expected levels of respect and professionalism.”
“I understand the roles of the play-by-play and color analyst,” Bowlsby said in a statement. “However as University representatives they also have an obligation to adhere to Conference policy regarding comments about game officials.
“Questioning the integrity of Conference officials and specifically calling out members of the officiating crew is well beyond appropriate and permissible behavior.”
The on-air criticism came during Texas Tech's 41-38 win against Iowa State in which Jonathan Garibay hit a 62-yard walk-off field goal for the win. Jensen and Harris made numerous comments about the officiating throughout the fourth quarter, which isn’t uncommon on college football radio broadcasts.
