The first day of the amateur draft is over. Kendrys Morales is now on the clock. With losing a first-round draft choice no longer a consideration, teams are now more free to pursue the free agent switch-hitting DH and first baseman. The Rangers, according to two baseball sources, are in the mix. Rangers GM Jon Daniels did return a request for comment, but Daniels’ policy has typically been to decline comment on free agents. There is little doubt Morales would be a good baseball fit for the Rangers. The Rangers have only one first-base option at this point in lefty Mitch Moreland, who is hitting just .133 against lefties for the season. In addition, they could use another middle-of-the-order run producer. Moreland is hitting third for the team, but the Rangers rank 14th of 15 teams in the AL in OPS from the No. 3 spot at .657.
