Catcher Jose Felix, of the Texas Rangers' organization, got his first start with Mexico in the Caribbean Series on Sunday night. Felix reached base twice in three plate appearances during a 6-5 loss in 11 innings to the Dominican Republic. He came out in the eighth inning for a pinch-hitter, former major-leaguer Karim Garcia. The Dominican had two stolen bases against Felix. Mexican winter-league champion Obregon added Felix for this event. He spent the season with the Guasave Cotton Growers, hitting .330 with a .779 OPS for 94 at-bats in the regular season and .283 with a .739 for 46 at-bats in the playoffs. Felix, 24, will be in the major-league spring training on a non-roster basis. He spent last season at Double-A Frisco. The Dominican leads the round-robin tournament at 3-0, followed by Venezuela (2-1), Mexico (1-2) and Puerto Rico (0-3.) The top two clubs will meet on Thursday for the championship.
