Texas A&M senior safety Armani Watts won't play against Wake Forest on Friday in the Belk Bowl because of a recurring rib injury, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Chronicle on Thursday. Watts' absence puts the wrap on an outstanding career as a four-year starter with the Aggies, and causes a dent in the A&M defense against a potent Wake Forest offense. Meanwhile interim coach Jeff Banks said he expects Watts to give it a go if possible, with Banks carrying on fired coach Kevin Sumlin's policy of not specifically addressing injuries prior to games. Watts was named first team All-SEC this season and third team Associated Press All-American. He started all 12 regular-season games and had 82 tackles and four interceptions. Watts' top backup is freshman Keldrick Carper.
