After making a hard run at Dave Aranda, it appears Texas A&M has found its next defensive coordinator in the form of Mike Elko, according to Billy Liucci of Texags. Elko spent the past season at Notre Dame. Elko helped turn around the Irish defense, which was a big reason Notre Dame went from 4-8 to 10-3 this season. Elko’s defensive unit limited LSU to 17 points. The Aggies defense gave up 45 points to that same LSU team. Prior to joining Notre Dame last offseason, Elko had spent the previous three seasons at Wake Forest. The Notre Dame defense improved in almost every category, most importantly sacks. Texas A&M does bring back a good chunk of its defense from last year’s team. Only one of the Aggies top 9 tacklers will graduate, and the Aggies are expected to bring back defensive lineman Landis Durham, who finished the year with 10.5 sacks per game.
