Sunderland are demanding West Ham United pay £8 million to take Connor Wickham to Upton Park. West Ham made a formal approach for Wickham on Monday, but were told their £5 million valuation is not enough. Wickham has only a year left on his Sunderland contract and is yet to sign a new deal, leading West Ham to believe he may be available on the cheap. But Sunderland want the £8 million fee back they paid to take Wickham from Ipswich in 2011 and it remains to be seen whether West Ham are willing to match that price tag. West Ham are desperately trying to sign a new front man before the start of the season on Saturday, with Andy Carroll ruled out for four months.
