SUNDERLAND have made contact with Aitor Karanka about taking over at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats are looking for their tenth manager since Roy Keane’s exit in 2008 following the sacking of Simon Grayson after just 18 games in charge. The Wearsiders are languishing in the bottom three with one league win all campaign. And now they are prepared to hire the former boss of North-East rivals Middlesbrough in a bid to save their season. Karanka, 44, is available for work after leaving Boro in March after four years the Riverside. The Spanish coach is still keen to work in England despite the disappointing end at Boro and rejected the chance to replaceg Harry Redknapp at Birmingham last month.
