Cardinals manager Mike Matheny rested right fielder Carlos Beltran in the series finale after batting him sixth for only the second time in Tuesday's 4-0 win. Beltran endured an 0-for-three game and lost a ball in the lights but insisted afterward that he felt fine physically. He entered Wednesday three for 19 for the road trip with his overall average at .266 compared to .296 at the All-Star break. "Right now he's really struggling and fighting," Matheny said. "It's hard for him not to be able to do what he's capable of doing. He's not going to show it. But he's putting too much on his shoulders."
