The Dallas Stars announced on Tuesday that they will retire Mike Modano's number 9 at a ceremony next season. The team said that Modano will be honoured before a game on March 8, 2014 against the Minnesota Wild. Modano is the top American-born scorer in NHL history. He retired after 21 seasons following the 2010-11 campaign with 561 goals and 1374 points while playing all but one year with the Minnesota North Stars-Dallas Stars franchise.
