Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he has been largely linked with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the Purple and Gold might have some issues signing him even if there’s a mutual interest.
According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Dinwiddie is seeking a contract that will pay him $25 million per year. To recall, the Nets combo guard declined his $12.3 million player option with the team last month with hopes and expectations of getting a significant pay raise and a longer deal.
While it’s easy to argue that Dinwiddie certainly deserves such hefty salary, especially since he is a productive guard when healthy, there are concerns about his injury status. After all, the Lakers target is coming of a partial ACL tear that kept him out for a huge chunk of the 2020-21 season.
