The Washington Capitals have agreed to a multi-year extension with general manager Brian MacLellan, according to Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos. MacLellan was named Capitals GM in May 2014 and has been at the helm as the team recorded three straight seasons with more than 100 points. He was assistant GM for seven seasons prior to the promotion. Washington head coach Barry Trotz, on the other hand, is in the final year of his contract and does not have the same job security. “It’s gotten to the point where if he’s not signed soon … other teams are going to come out looking for him perhaps,” said Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston during Saturday night’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada.
