Fresh off the ice situated in the middle of Soldier Field after a brief Blackhawks practice in mid-February, Patrick Sharp talked about the experience of playing outdoors. “Forgot how bright it was, actually,” Sharp said that frigid Feb. 16 afternoon. “Pretty cool atmosphere here. It would be great with a ton of people.” It appears Sharp and his teammates will get a chance to don sunglasses and play before a big Soldier Field crowd as a source confirmed the NHL is in the final planning stages of scheduling a contest between the Hawks and Penguins for March 1, 2014 as part of a six-game series of outdoor games. The outdoor games were first reported by TSN and ESPN with TSN saying the events would kick off with the previously announced Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium on Jan. 1. Other games would include the Ducks-Kings at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25, Devils-Rangers at Yankee Stadium on Jan. 26, Islanders-Rangers on Jan. 29 at the same venue and Senators-Canucks on March 2 at BC Place in Vancouver.
