Devils goalie Martin Brodeur said it was a sore back that prevented him from starting tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, but he doesn't feel the problem is a major concern. The 40-year-old goalie said he hurt his back in practice some time back and it probably stiffened while sitting on the bench in Washington. "My back was a little sore the last few games," he said. "Yesterday sitting on the bench probably didn't help." Brodeur said he planned on playing when he went out for the warmup tonight, but decided he should wait. “I thought I was going to be able (to play). I felt pretty good. I just didn’t feel strong enough to handle it ifd somebody hit me or I had to stretch out,” he said. “Everything should be fine. I don’t think it’s a big deal. I don’t think anybody around here is worried about it.” Brodeur will be examined by the team doctor tomorrow.
