Orioles manager Buck Showalter is unusual in many ways. He’s a manager who actually enjoys the media relishes exchanging ideas and opinions with them. This week he got burned. Showalter was quoted in USA Today in talking about the possibility that if Alex Rodriguez is suspended for next year the New York Yankees would be able to wipe his salary off the books. “If Bud lets them get away with that they’re under the luxury tax. If they can reset again they can spend again and I guarantee you in two years Matt Wieters is in New York” he told the publication. Showalter made the comments but didn’t think he’d be quoted. “It wasn’t meant for public consumption. You guys know we sit around and talk all the time about baseball issues because we all kind of love our game and we look at things and we talk about it. Unfortunately somebody decided to put it out there publicly” Showalter said.
Showalter's Yankees comments were private
