Two questions emerged after a few reports popped up over the past day: Should the Steelers bring back Lawrence Timmons? And should they trade Martavis Bryant? Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported the Miami Dolphins plan to release Timmons before free agency begins March 14. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the Steelers are listening to potential trade deals for Bryant. Signing Timmons back, even at age 32, should be a no-brainer. They wanted him to stay last year when he became a free agent before the Dolphins swept him off his feet with a two-year, $12 million contract, with $11 million of it guaranteed. He certainly wasn’t the same player last season in 14 starts with the Dolphins, and one mystery disappearance that led to him getting suspended. He even showed up at the Steelers facility on Miami’s off week, which was strange. Nevertheless, with Ryan Shazier not likely to play in 2018, the Steelers are desperate for inside linebackers. They should be able to sign Timmons for a reasonable contract, and it would give them not only depth at the position entering the draft but someone who knows their defense inside and out.
