Left-hander Jose Mijares will rejoin the bullpen Tuesday, which means the Giants have to make a tough call on demoting another reliever or a position player. The latter option would leave them with a four-man bench. Technically, Mijares had to be activated from the bereavement list Monday, but he was not scheduled to return from Venezuela until 11 p.m. The Giants placed him in the unpaid restricted list for one day, saying by rule, they had no other option if they wanted him active Tuesday. Angel Pagan's health could play into the decision. The Giants would feel more comfortable with a short bench if they knew Pagan's right-hamstring issue was not severe. The center fielder missed his second consecutive start Monday night but said he expects to be ready for Tuesday's game. He tested his leg by running at 70 percent of normal speed before batting practice and said he felt nothing in the hamstring, which he tweaked Saturday night. "He could play tonight," manager Bruce Bochy said before the series opener against the Phillies. "We're just being a little cautious."
