The Seattle NHL expansion team broke ground on a training facility, headquarters and community ice rinks Thursday.

Northgate Ice Centre, a 180,000-square-foot facility, is expected to be completed by fall 2021.

Seattle, which will begin play as the NHL's 32nd team in the 2021-22 season, said the goal is to ignite and encourage passion and skill and build a hub for hockey fans. The complex will include three sheets of ice, all for community use, and 14 community-use locker rooms. Team spaces will include locker rooms and strength and conditioning areas.
